Career Highlights:

Michael S. Rakers is a Partner in the Audit practice area in Chicago, Illinois. Mike has over 18 years of experience in public accounting. His diverse background includes experience in conducting audits, matters that require forensic accounting, and tax consulting. He has assisted legal counsel and their clients in developing litigation strategies, including financial discovery programs.

Experience:

Michael joined FGMK, LLC in 2003 after spending the last five years with Deloitte & Touche LLP and Klayman & Korman LLC (merged into Deloitte & Touche in 2001) as a director and senior manager in the audit group. Prior to that, Michael was a manager in an accounting and consulting firm providing litigation, accounting, and tax consulting.

Selected Engagements:

Litigation, Fraud, and Forensic Accounting Services:

  • Provided investigative and forensic accounting services in connection with a dispute between two partners of a real estate holding company. This engagement required the examination of various source documents, reconstructing books and records, conducting interviews of employees and assisting lead counsel in discovery issues. The investigation resulted in discovering over one million dollars being misappropriated by one of the partners.
  • Acted as a consultant in numerous marital dissolution proceedings. Services included lifestyle analysis, forensic accounting examinations, and assisting in discovery.

Education and Training:

Michael graduated from Bradley University, Peoria, Illinois with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).

Michael has attended numerous continuing education courses whose subject matter focused on forensic accounting, fraud, audit, and tax issues
